Kabaddi

This will be a numaishi match featuring two selected teams formed from across The Netherlands to showcase an exciting and competitive game of traditional circle-style kabaddi. Each team will consist of 11 players.

  • The game is played on a circular field with a radius of 22 meters, divided into two equal halves by a midline.
  • A 6-meter wide central gate (pala) is used for raiders to enter and exit.
  • Each team has 11 active players on the field.
  • The match duration is 40 minutes, divided into two halves of 20 minutes, with a 5-minute break.
  • One raider enters the opponent's half through the pala to tag a defender and return safely.
  • Only one defender may engage the raider during a raid.
  • Each raid must be completed within 30 seconds.
  • Raiders are not required to chant "kabaddi" during their raid.
  • If the raider successfully tags and returns, their team scores 1 point.
  • If the raider is stopped or fails to tag, the defending team scores 1 point.
  • If more than one defender engages the raider, the raiding team scores 1 point.
  • Stepping out of bounds results in 1 point for the opposing team.
  • Players who are out remain on the field; there is no revival system.
  • The game is overseen by 2 referees, 2 umpires, and 1 scorer.
  • Players typically play barefoot and wear traditional knickers.
  • The team with the highest score at the end of the match wins.
